Midwifery Services

My desire is that every woman is given the opportunity to have a beautiful birth.  Home birth is uniquely designed for each woman because it is out of her own home.  The midwife is the silent guardian that helps ensure a safe and smooth birth.

I am currently attending the Midwives College of Utah and apprenticing with a few midwives in Utah county.  Working in Midwifery has brought me a lot of joy already.  The opportunity to serve so many woman has been wonderful, and I hope that I will be able to serve many more.

Why home birth?
  • Home birth is naturally beautiful.  It provides the comfort of your own surrounds during labor
  • You don't have to go anywhere when you're finished
  • Many woman are more relaxed which is essential to a smooth and easy birth
  • Home birth helps the parents to have more control during their birthing time
  • It is easier to birth naturally without medication at home
Questions and Answers
  • When do you schedule your first visit?  The babies heart can usually be heard with a Doppler at about 11 to 12 weeks gestation, but it is fine if you want to come even earlier than that
  • How many prenatal visits will there be?  We will have 1 visit every four weeks until 28 weeks gestation.  From 28 weeks until 36 weeks we will have 1 prenatal every 2 weeks.  From 36 weeks until 40 weeks we will have weekly visits.  From 40 weeks until birth we will have a visit every few days
  • Who can be at the birth? Anyone that you want to attend.  It is generally better to have fewer people attending, but a party is always good too.  The most important thing is that everyone has a responsibility during the labor
  • How many postpartum visits will be done?  I will come to your house 1 to 2 days after the birth and again at 1 week after the birth.  At about 4 to 6 weeks we will have a final visit at my office
  • What if there is an emergency? Before the birth a paper is filled out with all emergency information and posted near the laboring location allowing us to contact the nearest hospital quickly.  Most birth emergencies will not happen without a warning sign allowing the midwife to identify that there is a potential risk and that a transfer is needed.  Some complications do not come with a warning, but with the help of the midwife and EMT have a positive outcome.
  • Can an epidural be given at home?  No.  Home birth midwives do not perform this procedure. If you end up wanting an epidural you will need to transfer to a hospital

Cost:  $1100.00
As a student midwife my prices are going to be less.  The amount covers prenatal visits, one month supply of prenatal vitamins, birth kit, birth pool (if desired), fee for the qualified midwife to attend your birth, birth, and postpartum visits.

Water Birth
Water is very therapeutic and can greatly aid in relieving pain and pressure during birth.  Water can be used in a shower, tub, or pool.  If you desire to have your baby in the water you are welcome to.

What are some of my practices as a student midwife?
  • Allowing the mother to follow her natural instincts during labor
  • The use of alternative medicine to support labor
  • Informed consent
  • Interference only when I feel it is necessary for the outcome of a positive birth and for the safety of the mother and baby
  • Delay cord clamping
  • Encourage skin-to-skin contact following birth
  • Encourage nursing in the first hours following birth
  • Until I have received my license as a Certified Professional Midwife I will practice with a qualified midwife present at each birth
